Beauty and Brains-Nina Davuluri

Congratulations Miss America!!   Nina Davuluri is the first woman of Indian descent to hold both titles of Miss New York and Miss America.  I think people forget that America is the biggest melting pot in the universe.  Let’s look at as a Successful and Intelligent woman has won Miss America and not where she came from.  Which by the way was born and raised is New York.   Davuluri attended the University of Michigan and has won several scholastic honors including the Dean’s List, Michigan Merit Award, and National Honor Society Award.  Her mother is a Software Engineer and father is a Gynecologist.  She hails from a family with Brains.

Davuluri graduated in 2012 with a degree in brain behavior and cognitive science from the University of Michigan. And her desire to do good doesn’t end there: her first official act as Miss America is happening today, where she’ll head to Seaside Heights, N.J. to see the damage done by Hurricane Sandy and the recent boardwalk fire. Davuluri’s desire to work in the medical field follows in the footsteps of her parents, who are both doctors.

Not to mention trained in the Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dancing.  Both very difficult to master.  Bharatnatyam is precisely known for its elegance, grace, softness, clarity and sculptured poses. On the other hand most of the poses in Kuchipudi are brisk, flat-footed, dazzling and overall curved having more rounded poses.

Check out the before and after.  She had to work for her body.  “I realized that I needed to make some serious changes if I wanted to get healthy and feel confident about myself,” Nina says on her trainer Tia Falcone’s website. “I started changing my eating habits and began taking group fitness classes at the gym. In four months time, I had lost 15 pounds and my clothes were starting to fit me again!”  The result was a slim down from 170 to 117 pounds.

Being healthy should be a lifestyle change and not just a temporary goal.
